im about to purchase a 2nd domain name and would like to concurrently with my 1st domain name before the registration runs out shortly...

the problem is that dixiesys doesnt list their 4$/month plan on their website anymore, and apparently 3-95.com has been bought out by some other company (webpage forwarded to 8-95.com)

is that new company as reliable as dixiesys was? does dixiesys have any special sales now?

i remember back in the day dude said he was eventually going to stop doing the 3.95 thing, sell the idea, and then maintain his customer base. i guess thats happened, now.

Our Experience: 8-95.com was started by Gary Harris, owner of Dixiesys.com and Mike Faulkner. Between the two, there are over 25 years of experience to draw upon, including network installation and administration, web hosting, and all things Internet and PC related. Hands on is how this business is run, the owners roll up their sleeves and answer support tickets just like the tech staff does.

Our Servers: 8-95.com is hosted exclusively on Rackshack dedicated servers. The only way to offer hosting for $8.95 a year and have a chance at all to make a profit is by using Rackshack dedicated servers. They have an excellent network with excellent uptime. Rackshack does not offer an SLA, 8-95.com also does not offer an SLA. This is the guarantee: the owners and staff of 8-95.com will do everything possible to make sure that the servers are up to date, healthy, and online as close to 100% as can be. Uptime percentages over 99% are fairly standard on the servers, uptime over 99.4% is not unlikely at all, and frankly, uptime over 99.8% is probably quite attainable with 8-95.com's setup.

Our Motto: Web hosting when you don't need your hands held or your forehead patted. What's that mean? It's simple, for the pricing we supply, we simply can't help debug your perl scripts, we can't tell you how to setup your Outlook Express and to put it simply, we can't hold your hand. What can we do? We can supply you with a very comprehensive set of FAQ's covering many of the common problems and solutions (setting up Outlook, configuring CGI scripts, and many many more). We can supply you with a solid stable server, with an excellent hosting environment (thanks to the Ensim control panel). We can make sure Perl is functioning, that SSI, CGI, PHP, MySQL are all functional and working. Yes we will even install Perl modules that you may need if they're not already there. We can't help you install phpBB, we can make sure MySQL is running and PHP is working so that your install of phpBB should be successful if you do it right. We can make sure Apache is configured and running properly.

Does this mean you don't offer tech support? No we offer it, 24/7 but you've got to realize there's a line between "supplying a healthy server environment for you to use" and "helping you debug your scripts". If you don't know to chmod your perl scripts 755 then you might need your hand held, and in that case we'd highly recommend checking out www.dixiesys.com for hosting.

It's a new venture for Gary and they have an uptime guarantee.

i believe they just moved to 8-95/mo

no longer the deal like it was before.. but still not a bad deal for what they give now.

You snooze, you lose.

The old Dixiesys died on 12/31/2002 now they're touting better uptime which means you gotta pay for it. No more cheapy $3.95/mo accounts and no more 2 for 1 specials (for now).

I would recommend checking out AddAction.net

500MB DiskSpace
10 GB Bandwidth
5 Domains Hostable
5 MySQL Databases
Control Panel (Cpanel 5.0 - BlueTrix with Auto Installer)
CGI/PHP/TCL/Python/C++ and SSH
50 POP3 Accounts (including Parked and Addon Domains)
50 FTP Accounts
Unlimited Email Aliases
Unlimited Email Forwarders And more....
for $6.95 per month after the 6-month free trial!

But that's not all THE PLAN also includes:

AUTOINSTALLER for the following programs:

Advanced Poll 2.02

PerlDesk 1.5.5
phpCollab 1.9
phpBB2 2.0.2

Dixiesys is focusing on a more premium service, with the new accounts having guarantees on web server (not just network) uptime. 99.5% or better or we start giving back money. External monitoring is done by alertra.com so we have no way of "skewing" the report and the interval is 5 minutes. Our first server of "new" accounts is 50% filled, we started the monitor on 1/15 here's a link if you're curious:

http://uptime.alertra.com/uptime2?id2=1914&id1=113592

As for the "old" dixiesys, basically I went into a partnership, supplying the 3-95.com domain and the subsequent pretty good google (and other) listings, as well as my "approach" I guess is the word I'd use, and now the budget hosting for new accounts is supplied by www.8-95.com (aka www.3-95.com) with deals even better than our old hosting deals were. 8-95 has 3 servers, and a 4th will be added very soon (next week probably).

As for dns servers, current name servers are ns2a.8-95.com and ns2b.8-95.com for 8-95.com which will change when the new server comes online (ns4a/ns4b at that time).
