What's the deal with Crucial's memory when compared to other generic brands? I can imagine it's more reliable, but there must be something else...

You seem to be implying that Crucial is a generic brand, brigden, but personally I never thought of them that way.

My bad. Grammar leaves a little to be desired. I should have said, "...compared to generic brands.."

they've been the #1 safe choice in memory for many years, not as cheap as generic but excellent service and a great warranty.

If you use their memory selector wizard they'll even guarantee compatibility with your motherboard or laptop, which can save you from being stuck with a useless stick or SODIMM that won't fit (in laptops) or is the wrong density.

I was simply inquiring about their reputation. I was not passing judgement. I know little about the product.

Reputation eh?? VERY GOOD. :) They've been a favorite company to turn to for RAM needs. Many ATers were/are happy with Crucial sticks because of the quality and overclockability.

Other great reasons to buy Crucial include free 2 day shipping (and I mean 2 day! ) and the fact that you can often get 15% off for online orders.

It's also available through many online retailers, as well as B&M stores like Best Buy.

I've never even thought to question Crucial's reputation, as a matter of fact I have never ever once heard somebody complain or have to return a stick of Crucial memory. It's not the best overclocking memory, but it is probably the highest quality/stable memory made

Top notch customer service, speedy free shipping, high quality, and excellent prices are the reasons why I use Crucial RAM and recommend it to my friends.

Well, not counting the stick I stepped on :), I had 2 modules die on me in the past year. A friend of mine had to return one recently as well. Out of all the Crucial I've used over the years, that's not too bad in my book. And who knows, maybe my motherboard ate the RAM.

Crucial is Micron's retail/wholesale outlet. Everything from the memory chips to the PCB is 100% Micron...made in the USA.

Not necessarily true. Crucial will use chips from Samsung and other manufacturers occasionally.

Because from everything I hear, they aren't needed, they just add cost for people who like to show-off...

I think crucial is great, never had a bad stick from them...
