What's the deal with 800MB CD-Rs?

I 've got a Teac W540e 40x CD Burner and I use Nero 5.5. I've got some 800MB CD-Rs that I bought at about the same time as the CD writer but Nero only recognizes them as 700MB CD-Rs. Friends of mine also have fairly recent CD writers (40x - 52x) but none of them can burn 800MB CD-Rs (no matter the manufacturer of the CD-Rs). Is this because of some option in Nero or because our CD writers don't support it?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

I beliebe your drive has to support over burning, or something to that effect in order to make those work. See if you can locate a firmware update on the drive manufacturer's website that will possibly enable this.

If you look in the configuration of your burner software you will find a place to set the size of the cd rom's that you are using, unless it is a very old burner software.

If you are using NERO open a window to burn and click on file, click on preferences when the dialogue box opens change the numbers to 79 40 73 or the maximum that it will allow.

I am using Nero but I don't really understand what numbers (79 40 73) you said I should change. I changed the over burning time to 90 minutes, disabled multisession and changed the burn method from track-at-once to disk-at-once and it works now!

Thanks for your help!
