I can't believe I'm about to type this, but...3tb of storage space is no longer sufficient for my home computer. I don't really want to change my case and start adding PCI controller cards to accommodate more 1tb drives. Word on the net for the 1.5tb & 2tb drives is not good. E.g. if you look at any manufacturer, any model on Newegg and Amazon has a lot of DOA complaints, early failures, bad sectors after light use, etc. I don't just mean block size and RAID issues (i.e. people RAIDing drives that are not designed for it). Sorry I don't have objective numbers, but most of you probably know what I'm talking about.
So what's the deal with these large capacity disks? Why do they seem to be noticeably less reliable than smaller drives? I have MRI scans I want to start analyzing at home.
