It wasn't massive, therefore not an MMO.

Duping in Diablo 1 was different because the duping method was commonly known and anyone could dupe, also there was 1 godly item that made everything else obsolete. Nowadays, Diablo 2 duping is very secretive and when a method becomes publicly known, it's usually shutdown very quickly.

In general, duping in D2 doesn't destroy gameplay.

Couldnt they make a system where each item has a hidden code attached to it that had to be validated by Battle.net or something or it doesnt work? Should get rid of a lot of the duping.

Blizzard has a system that deletes dupes/hacked items. However, only once have they committed resources to running a major "rust storm" to wipe out dupes. Right now they have a passive system that will periodically delete dupes. This all leads makes me hopeful that an updated version of Warden could largely eliminate dupes in D3.

My D2 online experience was somewhat spoiled because of a duper friend. Before LOD, he would give me hundreds of soj's and dual leech / dual stat rings, amulets, boots, gloves, etc. In LOD later he would give me all sorts of elite items - the green shako, grandfathers sword, arkaines armor, etc. Before he duped in LOD and around the 1.08/1.09 patch I actually found a Windforce Bow from one of my magic runs, I sold that on ebay for $400 - $500 (this was before duping was prevelant in the expansion).

wtf. 400?? thats freakin retarded. jesus.

I've seen a Grandfather's sword fetch $700 and Arkaine's armor near $1000. Some people made their living off of Diablo 2 alone.

Wow, I remember finding Arkaines Armor playing the game. I wouldn't think someone would pay me to give it to them.
