I have an 8800GT, but I'm afraid it's been damaged during my move from Seattle to Chicago. I need a new video card. What's the 8800GT of today? something that offers the best price-to-performance ratio?

the rest of my computer is Core 2 Duo E8500, eVGA nVidia 750i FTW SLI motherboard, 4gigs of DDR2 800mhz RAM, a case, etc.

thanks

9800GTX or 9800GTX+ if you might use SLI someday. ATI Radeon 4850 otherwise.

What Golgatha said. If you think you'll use SLI, go with a 9800GTX/+, otherwise I'd slightly prefer a Radeon 4850.

Probably a 9600GT or used 3870 would be good if you just want something equivalent to the 8800GT to get you by. Either of those should run less than $100.

If you're looking for best bang/buck in a single card right now though, I would grab a 4850 if you can find one for $160 or less.

Your GT died? does it have warranty? RMA it...
The 8800GT and the 4850 both MUST be bought with a 3rd party cooler...

The 8800GT just went up in prices all of the sudden. Makes the 9800GT actually cheaper to own.

9800GT from XFX, double lifetime warranty (register it!), free shipping. 130$ - 20MIR. And a dual slot cooler.

A 4850 you will have to get your own cooler for, or buy one with a custom cooler, those cost more though, even the regular ones are typically 190$ - 40MIR.
