It's not hard to find this out yourself.

WoW is about $15 per month

Nearly all MMORPGs charge between $10 to $15 a month depending on how many months you buy. (Sony MMOs, WoW, LOTRO, etc.)

Some MMOs offer a lifetime subscription for a flat fee.

15 dollars a month in strictly monetary terms, the damage to your soul is much greater.

It's amazing how much MMO prices have increased, allowing monster MMOs like WoW to rake in crazy profit.

Smart developers..

Usually you get a discount when playing for several months in one shot rather then a month by month basis. Only use this after you've played a month or so and know you will continue playing.

Smart developers? stupid consumers...

It costs them virtually nothing (in terms of what they make) to run those servers/pay the people to work on the game

It takes a smart company to properly take advantage of stupid consumers. Lots of companies try and fail.

Virtually nothing? You know nothing of network operations.

And, on a purely philosophical level...GOD FORBID a corporation try to make money. I mean, Jeez, they should all just give everything away. Anyone who makes money is evil, even though they provide millions of people countless hours of entertainment.

I hate the ignorance on the internet.

It does cost them virtually nothing. Upkeep, staff (including customer service) and all of that junk cost $200 million total in the 4 years WoW has been up. Blizzard makes that much in less than 2 months from WoW.

Sure, every business aims to make money. I just hate to see how high subscription costs have gotten.

Actually, It's amazing how much MMO prices have stayed the same. What was it for Meridian59? UO?

You know what's crazy, back in the day people used to pay per hour for text based versions of these games. I think they get a pretty good deal these days.

Your numbers are complete guesses, I've never seen any sort of data from Blizzard that stated how much their data center costs to run and how much they make profit. I'm sure they make a lot of profit, however the startup fees for MMO games are almost always a ridiculous risk. Just look at all the ones that have gone face first into the ground. Big risk, big reward, that's normally how it works.

IIRC MMO monthly prices have ALWAYS been 10-15$/month, wow is no different, if you pay for more then 1 month at a time its cheaper as well, i think 6 months is like $12.99/mo if you pay all at once

and 15$/month is really not that expensive, you spend more then that at the bar for 2 beers

Incorrect.

Everquest could be as cheap as $6.95 a month. Of course this was many years ago and only if you purchased an entire year. Their original monthly price was $9.95.

How much was EQ, the first big 3d MMO, per month? Oh, less than WoW? Oh, and EQ's prices increased over the years?

Yes, MMO subscription prices have increased. I never said that it's not a good deal. I simply stated that they have increased, which is true, despite your claims otherwise.

Oh, really? Thanks for telling me. I thought I got my numbers from Blizzard's Analyst Day conference call on September 15th, but I guess I was wrong.

Go troll elsewhere until you learn to stop making false claims.
