What's the connector for on the bottom of an N64?

I flipped my N64 over the other day and found a massive sized connector of some sort under there... What is this used for?

No, he means the console itself. My sister ran away from home and stole my N64 (true story) but if I remember correctly it looks kind of like a parallel port. Maybe an add on modem or something that they had plans for but never released?

It's for the 64DD. A disk drive that only came out in Japan. It was supposed to hit the US but got cancelled.

Yep and it is for the 64DD. Too bad that thing never made it.

It (the port) was for the 64DD, a disk drive peripheral that never made it to the US, it came out in japan but to my knowledge was a failure over there too.

A quick google search turned this, this and this.

Suffice it to say, the thing never amounted to much.

istallion: You are thinking of the port on the bottom of the controller.

Yeah, it could be used for the DoctorV64 by some company named Bung. It allowed you to play "backup" of games. Games were amazingly small too. Most were in the 16-32 meg range.
