What's the Cleanest Way to reinstall Direct X and Audigy Sound drivers

Per the title; see rig specs in sig. I have an Audigy 2/GeForce6800U and I'm getting some weird (s second) freezes in Microsoft's FS2004. Seems like the sound card may be at fault as I'm getting some crackling/popping from time to time.

I thought about upgrading to DX9c (from b) and trying to reinstall the creative drivers.

Looking to do this as cleanly as possible with no "residue". Can anyone help?

Make sure the volume in "volume control" is set at roughly medium, not any higher. The adjust your speakers. That MAY be the problem.

OK... I suspected that volume may be a contributor to the problem. I have the speakers cranked. But... What does volume have to do with causing the sound/video to freeze... What's going on here???

As long as you have windows volume control at med to low, it shouldn't matter what your speakers are at. This is just something I have experienced, this was an exact sympton I had (crackling noise out of speakers), and this ended up being my fix.

OK, perhaps this will solve the crackling, but I'm wonding about why this makes the system freeze...?

And...

Does anyone know the best way to reload the Audigy drivers? Do I need a Driver Cleaner Program to clear out the residue or does it even matter since I'm overwriting the same driver files?
