Does Greyhound or Amtrak have a summer or 30day travel ticket for students?

i believe so. but i haven't checked in a while.

pretty sure with amtrak you can get a 30 day pass even if you're not a student.

It depends on how far you're going... I just checked Minneapolis to Seattle with Amtrak and Greyhound.

Greyhound: $140
Amtrak: $185
Sun Country Airlines: anywhere from $115 to $190... and 15 times faster than train or bus.

That's a very general question. If you're travelling strictly east coast or whatever, you can get by using trains. Amtrack runs routes between Boston, NYC, and DC... But if you were to attempt to go from east coast to west coast on a train, you could save yourself a lot of days (including food costs) by catching a flight. The problem is that airfare prices are on the rise, so you need to search for the cheapest fares between a number of different cities. If you can get by without checking bags, it's sometimes cheaper to book flights with 2 hops and get off at the first hop. (direct flights cost more on average)

I'm wanting to travel the country...not just from one city to another..but perhaps 15 or more cities/towns in 30 days more or less.

this might work.

anyway, i'm sure i've heard amtrak has a 30 day pass (not only to students). not sure how much it would cost. if you open a student account with them, however, you'll get a 15% discount from all prices. if you're traveling with others, i know they used to (a few months ago) have a deal where if 2 people bought tickets, person 3-6 would only pay 25% of their ticket cost (basically 75% off).

hitch hike is the cheapest, then bicycle
next would be a small motorcycle, a 350cc will do highway speeds and get 60-70 mpg
after that might be a bus pass if they still do that

one does that when Zolty doesn't read carefully. he's trying to to find the cheapest way to travel WITHIN the US, not to it.

Thread Topic: "...way to travel THE US" not "...way to travel TO US"

Definitely has to be Greyhound. Plus you get to meet lots of interesting people (schizophrenics, drug addicts, recently released felons, etc).

Southwest airline 21 day advance non-refundable is probably the most efficient method of long distance transportation.

What cities do you have in mind? It can take the better part of a day to get between large cities on the West Coast.

drive yourself*

*this can be more expensive than flying if it's only you and the car doesn't get that great mileage and you stop places you wouldn't have otherwise (motels are $$) and you could have gotten airline specials
