I sold a stick of memory on ebay, and I was wondering if there is anyway to send it cheaper ... TIA :)

domestic or international?

do they want it quick or can they wait?

you could probably wrap it in static resistant bag...a little bubble wrap...and sandwich it between 2 pieces of cardboard and either *try* to fit it in normal mail envelope or if domestic just do the priority mail for like $3.50 or whatever

actually it's a kingston ram, and it is still in its original box.
I think I can fit it into the regular envelope, but is it safe this way?

All mail is being irradiated due to the Anthrax situation.

If you send the memory through USPS, it's dead.

Are you sure? I sold two sticks of memory to a fellow ATer and I shipped via priority mail. Maybe I should pm him to make sure the sticks still work...

Well, when I sold some sticks of RAM I sent them in those little crucial RAM boxes that I had lying around and just put them in a Priority Mail envelope. They arrived in good condition according to the person I sold them to. Oh, yeah I did put them in anti-static RAM bags and the crucial boxes did have foam padding inside them.

Ah, I sent the sticks wrapped in two anti static bags so I should be ok. Thanks, and now I feel foolish. :p

Do not send them regular mail! The high speed sorters the post office uses will be the end of that ram. I've seen those machines do some crazy things to mail.

Slingshot.

But seriously, first class mail is probably the cheapest. If you don't need tracking, go first class. It'll probably cost you less then a buck. Need tracking/insurance? Go with USPS Priority mail with confirmation. You can get a professional looking shipping label, with free delivery confirmation! Check this thread for more info. The base rate for Priority packages under one pound is $3.50. My guess is that insurance will run you anywhere from 50 cents to a dollar ten, depending on the cost of your ram. Make sure to package the memory in anti-static wrap, and some sort of soft packing material such as bubble wrap. Then put the whole enchalada in a small box with foam or packing peanuts. If you can't find a suitable box, use a bubble mailer!

Hope this helps. :)

I have received (10) 32mb sodimms, (1) 128mb sodimm, (4) 64mb sodimms, (1) 256mb SDRAM, in the past couple months and %100 of them have been working. The only ram I have received since Sept. that hasn't worked was the first stick of SDRAM that was packaged w/o static, w/o cardboard, w/o foam in a paper envelope. Hah. I think this irradiation scare is turning into a bad excuse for poor shipping....

One more thing bud. If you choose to go Priority, highlight the 20 digit confirmation number and the letters "e/ USPS Delivery Confirmation." This will remind the mailman, on the recipients side, to scan the barcode. Delivery confirmation is no good if the barcode isn't scanned. :)

a little bit of cardboard surrounding the stick, and some bubble wrap surrounding the cardboard. Add tape - and BAM! You have the proper protection for a stick 'o memory! :)
