Whats the cheapest way to get Counter-Strike?

I don't own Half-Life, so whats the cheapest way to get Counter-Strike? From what I have been able to gather, if you own Half-Life, you can download Counter-Strike for free? Is that correct? If so, wouldn't it be cheapest to simply go find the cheapest copy of Half-Life somewhere and then download Counter-Strike?

The full retail version of Counter-Strike seems to cost $30 around here.. can it be had cheaper online? Any advantage to the full retail verison over the one you can download?
 
I suggest you buy a copy of Half-Life... since it is so much cheaper because it is old.... then download CS.
 
i can't find anywhere just selling the original game.. Does Counterstrike work with the Opposing Force expansion pack?
 
For awhile they had a $10.00 off coupon with the retail CS. I went to my local K-mart and they had it for 19.95, and when I got to the register it rang up as 17.95. So with the $10.00 off I got a pretty good deal. AND I even got my $10.00 rebate in the mail not to long ago.

The retail versions come with a few extras: Team Fortress Classic, Opposing Force Multiplayer, and three mod add-on adventures; Firearms, Redemption &amp; Wanted.I picked up mine at WalMart for $19.95
 
I picked up my Half Life: Game of the year edition from Comp USA a couple months ago.

Cost me $7.95 and there was a $10 rebate on it.
 
I still think you should buy the old Half-Life... all of the MODs that are above are all downloadable... and with the original HL, you can play the game too! I have both versions, CS retail and Half-life... and let me tell you, its the same.
 
Find the original Half-Life somewhere from some computer store in a sealed box. The CD key is the most important thing for HL/CS, so if you can find a game store that has the original HL, you may be able to get it cheap!
