So, I made a terrible laundry error tonight with my tmobile phone:(

My cell is (was) my only phone & I need to get up and running with a phone asap. I have a coworker whose phone (I think it was att) broke and she went to wal-mart and got some kind of gsm phone and switched over her sim card. Thing is, I don't have a phone to call and ask her how she did it and she doesn't work tomorrow. I've heard t-mobile prepaid phones are locked, but are there other phones to be had that would work?

Do you have to do anything the the prepaid phone to get it to work with the old sim card? I thought I read some where that the prepaid phones were locked, or something.

Nope.

You're going T-Mo to T-Mo, once you insert the T-Mo SIM card, enter the password and you're done.

I know it sounds too easy, right? BTW Target B&M has good deals on cheap T-Mo prepaid cell phones.

Cool, thanks. What is the password from? I don't remember the last time I used a password on that phone.

Ok, so you're saying the prepaid I buy might have an activation password?

When I was in OD about 2 weeks ago they had some TMobile prepaid cells on clearance. You might want to check your local store. You shouldn't need a password. You don't need to unlock it either, just put your sim card in the phone and you're good to go.

Awesome. OD is on the way to target, so I'll stop there first, after work. The sim card looks fine, but do they usually survive something as intense as a washing machine?

Your sim might be ok, if it isn't then you will have to call or go into a store. If the phone has a password they generally tell you what it is in the manual. Its something like 1234 or 0000 generally. If its just temporary then the prepaid is the way to go, if you want the same phone you had you might want to check ebay or something rather then pay full price form T-Mobile.

Probably, they are pretty hardy, mine has survived similar.

Your SIM could have a password (seperate from the phone being locked) on it, to protect it from being switched out and used in other phones without you knowing. Generally it is disabled (or set to 0000 or 12345 etc) from the factory unless you turned it on/changed it. The phone can also have a startup code as well.
