amazon often has apple stuff a few bucks cheaper than the apple store, but really you aren't going to find much of a deal anywhere

Thanks guys! What about like, an older gen MacBook or older refurbished one? These things are fucking expensive. How do all these kids have MacBooks?!

Financial priorities. I suppose we could all afford them if it was high enough up on the priority list.

You see my link? The official refurb store is really kind of luck of the draw in terms of what you'll find.

Yeah I did, thank you! I'm hoping I can convince them to get one. A MacBook Air to be specific. Either the low end 11.6" or 13.3". How are the MacBook airs? Sufficient for surfing and PowerPoint?

Am I crazy to say that apple easily makes pretty much the best laptops today? Seems like nothing else compares.

A lot of my friends at university have Airs/Low end 13" Pros, and they are more than sufficient for PPT, Surfing etc..

Perfect for carrying to lectures, whereas my bigger 15" rPro is a bit too big to carry around comfortably all day.

My parents own an 11" ad 13" Air and it's perfect for office and web surfing.

You're not crazy to think that. I've had my Mac laptop for less than two weeks and it's the best laptop I've ever used by far. Worth the money in my opinion, however if I were still in college, there's no way I could have afforded this laptop. Good luck!

They redesigned the chassis and removed DVD drive and switched to custom SSD ("Flash") storage, plus its non-user upgradable (to shave off weight and size as well as make more $ :p).

One of the best in construction for sure. Parts are the same as all other laptops.

You can upgrade the SSD on the rMBPs.

This is a bad time to buy a Mac laptop.

New versions will be out relatively soon (in a couple of months), and likely they'll have 802.11ac.

Yup, if you plan to buy new, wait until WWDC (typically 1st or 2nd week in June), which is just after the June 2nd where Intel is rumoured to announce Haswell CPU's which will have much better graphics, will run faster, cooler, and use less electricity (better battery life ftw). I'm holding out till then to see if there will be updated Rentina Pro's.
