We're getting a 900Mhz T-Bird, but still stumped on which motherboard to get. We just need a regular board with no fancy features like RAID, and I'm not planning on OCing it. Our price range is $120.

Asus A7V? I forgot how much it costs, but I think its near $120. Also the GigaByte GA-7ZX is a good one from my knowledge. It has onboard audio and can be had for around $110.

DesignDawg, I think he recommended the pro 2 not the pro 2a if you don't need ata100, but the 2a may have replaced it as far as availability is concerned. The big dif is ata66 vs 100. It has onboard sound. I see it at microbarn on pricewatch for $111 shipped. Built two systems, one each with these boards. I'm happy, but will wait for the turbo for one for me. Maybe 3or4 weeks.

THOSE BASTARDS!!! I ordered it 2 days ago, and it was 12 bucks more! DOH! I wish they did price protection. Oh well. I still got a good deal I think. And yes, Anand did say that about the Pro2, but like you said, the Pro2-A is the exact same board with a couple of extras on it, and you're probably not gonna find the plain vanilla Pro2 anymore. Also, in that review, it did say you might want to wait for the Pro2-A for thos enhancements. It's here. Any other choice would bee foolish IMO.

Try a combo From Monarch Computers. I have ordered three 1Ghz TBird/MSI K7T Pro2a combos from them in the last few weeks, and I'm going to order another to build a new machine for my parents. They delivered very quickly. They pretest the combo and include an aftermarket H/F (Taisol). The procs are OEM but they carry a full 3yr warranty. BTW I paid $343 for each combo, to the door.

If i'm correct, they're 200FSB, the K7T Turbo is the one with the 200/266fsb with RAID 1 and 0 I think.

MEM The problem with the regualr pro is there is no multiplier adjustments, which means no overclocking.

Rifter,

<< and I'm not planning on OCing it. >>

He is not going to overclock so it does not matter.

I'd go with the original MSI, or the Abit KT7 as that has worked well for me. It has been very stable with no overclocking.

The MSI K7T Pro2-A is the most stable board I've ever dealt with, and I got it a month ago for 124 bucks.

MSI K7T Pro2 or Pro2-a and the Abit KT7 Raid or non-raid are the best two motherboards IMO. Both have had some problems. The Abit's have a not-so-great RMA rate and a few quirks. The MSI's have had a few reported problems with faulty/leaking capacitors, (see this article) but nothing widespread.

Either board is a solid choice.
