What's the catch for work-from-home job offer?

I've received a couple work-from-home offers in email, I kinda skimp through and thought they don't sound so bad. Stable income, free training and what not. So really, what's the catch for this type of offer? Has anyone tried a job offer like this before?

They probably require you to pay something up front to get started with the promise you'll recoup that money and much more once you start selling.

Any time people are contacting you for a work at home offer, it's because they want to scam you. There are valid work at home jobs, but most involve little pay for a lot of effort. True telecommuting jobs that pay well usually involve a lot of specialized training in a particular field (and usually you aren't recruited while you are sitting on your ass at home watching TV or surfing the internet - not saying that you are doing these things, though).

By the way, please don't respond to any of these offers or click any links in the emails. 90% of the time they aren't even real offers for crappy jobs, they are used to harvest valid email accounts for spamming.

work from home would be fantastic, only problem is, 9 out of 10 people will just dick around

I have enough self-discipline that I would probably be more productive at home, and employer would save money w/out needing to buy office equipment, etc.

Aside from scams, that's the other problem. Most (not all) people who are drawn to these ads are usually unmotivated and lack self discipline to begin with, which is why they are easy prey for "get rich quick" and "work at home" schemes.

you buy stuff, then attempt to resell it for more money.
Or you lick enveleopes and snail mail spam.

either way... you are not en employee.
you get no benefits.
you get no minimum salary or wages.
