Whats the biggest Fan I can fit with SLK800 on 8RDA+ board?

Hi Human 2K,

I have that cooler, but not the M/B. My cooler has a Vantec Tornado 80x80x38mm fan and I believe it should fit your M/B. I have the fan controlled because of the high noise generated at the high rated flow rate (84cfm) I currently run it at 4,400 rpm and find it meets my needs. However, I can crank it up if I choose to do so. The fan is rated to 5,700 rpm, but the noise is bad 55dBa (rated). I'm assuming that I push about 50cfm right now. That a real WAGS (wild a** guess) based on other advertised flows of 80mm fans at that rpm.

One thing I have noticed over the past 18 months. I believe that there is a wall or barrier related to fan flow and cooling. Somewhere around 5,200 rpm, not much more cooling of my cpu occurs (maybe 1degC). Just thought I'd let you know. One last note: Room temps make a big difference for me and balanced air flow through the case works the best. All of my case fans on my Lian Li case are controlled.

I hope this helped, 🙂

I believe I have seen where people have used 92mm fans on it if they rotate the fan 45 degrees, or some other angle.

I have seen the 90mm fan rotated 1/4 turn on the sk6, so it may work on the slk-800.

Buick- I'm curious about your tornado. Is it as quiet as a case fan when you turn it down? I'm looking for a replacement for my Thermaltake SmartFanII because after 2500rpm it get whiney. My case fans are all 2500rpm rated at 28dB.

It doesn't seem as though anything above 80mm would be more effective, it at all..
The pivot of a 92mm fan could be just as big as the entire heatsink and the outsides of the blades wouldn't be blowing on anything. Remember most of the air that is blown comes from the outside of the fan's diameter. 70mm fans blow air directly on the heatsink seemingly much better than anything else in my experience, even if it has lower CFM.

80mm already overhangs it by a bit, so bigger would overhang by quite a bit

plus theres no groove/notch type thing to place a 92mm....it would have to be turned 45degrees (i think thats right) and have to sit on top of the notches...take a look at the heatsink (if you already have it) and you wil lknow waht i mean...

plus that would mean youd have to warp the clps alot.....same as sk6..but these clips go through the (almst) entire width of the heatsink...

id say get an 80mm....it would overhang the heatsink ab it, providing some air to ram lol
