And if it's anything like shrimp or lobster, we should be farming them. How tough can it be to raise a swarm of huge wetas?I wonder what they taste like? :hmm:
What state do you live in? (So that I never go anywhere near it.)Killed this in my kitchen earlier tonight...
<scorpion>
not the biggest as ive caught a tarantula before but i saw one of these about 6 inches long or so on my land. Didn't have anything to catch it with so i just let it go on its way. Thing creeped me out though like no other bug ive ever seen.

I suppose it would be a good idea to have the walls of the farm or enclosure coated in Teflon to keep the residents confined.

Cicada Killer (like a regular wasp on steroids)
I've killed a couple of these back in the day. They get really pissed when you catch them in a bug net a try to get them into a killing jar.
May not be as big as your grasshopper, but definately more intimidating.

Hm...then I'm staying in Pennsylvania. I've never seen a scorpion around here, and that's fine with me.Those are in almost every state.![]()

If we do, I've never seen one.Don't you guys get brown recluse spiders there?
I am not sure about Pennsylvania, but here we have black widows.If we do, I've never seen one.
Wiki gives this as their range.
The only venomous things that come to mind around here are a few snakes, like rattlesnakes and copperheads, but I've yet to see any manner of snake wander into my house uninvited.![]()
Yes, according to maps I've seen of their range, they should be around here, but I've never seen one.I am not sure about Pennsylvania, but here we have black widows.
the worst are the yellow jackets. They are very bad here in the late summer/fall.Yes, according to maps I've seen of their range, they should be around here, but I've never seen one.
The most significant venom-carrying threats I've encountered are large nests of various types of hornets, which invariably have very bad attitudes toward all other life forms.

You likely wouldn't see black widows unless you went looking for them. They are small spiders that like to hide in dark, damp places.
You'd be surprised at some of the places I find black widows around here. Under roof tile, in the garden, in my shed, my garage, under bushes, under the edge of the stucco sides of my house. Not particularly dark and damp...perhaps dimly lit, but definitely not dark.
