Because of the past five years of producing those "real life" docudramas, they forgot how to write serialized dramas.

i like prison break, heroes, battlestar gallactica

the 9, prison break, heroes, lost, etc, they are all drama that are supposed to slowly get you hooked to not really the story but the characters explosring the story. it is supposed to make you want to know what is going to happen in the end which they always twist up, what sucks is if the show does well they want it to keep going so they just start another season with you still not knowing, or the show does bad and is cancelled and you NEVER get to find out what happens. bastards.

Don't forget "reality" shows. Those brought down the average national IQ and the tv writers suffered the biggest drop.
