What's the big deal about Castle Crashers?

Downloaded the demo back when it first showed up on XBL, played the first couple of levels, thought the artwork was funny, creative etc, actually got a kick out of the design. but wasnt at all interested in paying $$ for the full version.

Then I keep seeing it rated as one of the most played games on XBL.. wtf? Did I miss something? Is there something in the full version that makes it way better than the demo?

Or does this game just appeal to people who miss the old style scrolling arcade games?

Why does this game keep topping the lists of most played/most popular 360 games of 2008?

It's a simple game that is really easy to play with a few friends.

Although that doesn't seem like much, games who fit that description are becoming rarer and rarer..

Ya I guess I hadnt tried the multiplayer mode. The only games my gf shows any interest in are PGR4 (though she hates how I consistently beat her with slower cars) and Geometry Wars 2

It's not nearly as fun when you're playing by yourself. It's fantastic when you have a bunch of people over. Between that, BC: Rearmed, and N+ XBox Live Arcade brings a bunch of fun to 4 people in one room.

It's just a simple classic beat-em-up with a cool art style and tons of unlockables. Won't appeal to everybody, but it's fun in spurts.

 Classic old school fun. A++, would buy again.

My friend downloaded the demo, and he instantly bought it after we played it.

After playing it for a few hours, I came to realize how boring and repetitive it can get. Plus, it's especially hard having a low level character jump in later on.

Also, it's very hard to see your character and tell what's going on...that might have been the TV, though.

It does get old fast. Me and my roomies got burnt out pretty quickly.

MS promoted it like crazy and I had REALLY high hopes for it but the game didn't deliver. Aside from the netcode being broken the game got pretty boring after a couple plays through with buddies. I had no reason to go back and level up all the characters and get all the secrets.

I had the same reaction - everyone else seems to love this, but I got the demo and just wasn't into it for some reason.

I thoroughly enjoyed the demo even if I was just playing it solo. I was waiting on the patch to fix the multiplayer issues before I bought it but now that it is out, I'm still recovering from overspending on Christmas and probably won't be buying it for a month or so.

I've also got both Penny Arcade Adventures and Geometry Wars 2 in the queue of XBLA games I want to buy but haven't yet.

I tried it and it was meh. Controls are kinda bad, hit detection is bad, too simplistic to be much fun. I guess it's approachable but I don't understand the hype at all.

Still, I can see how someone would want to buy it if they've got lots of people over at their house and they want to be able to play a simple 4-player game.
