What's the better cooling solution ?

I will be getting a new video card soon, and I'm wondering what the better cooling solution would be: Arctic Cooling Silencers (Nvidia or ATI), or the Zalman ZF700? I'm guessing both are inaudible, but which does a better cooling job ?

I have both an NV Silencer 5 and a Zalman VF700 Cu and the Zalman cools better and is quieter. The AlCu version runs about 3C hotter than the all copper version from what I've seen in reviews.

The Cu version isn't worth the added weight and cost in my opinion.

Read the reviews, you'll see that the Cu version cools a few degrees more than the AlCu version, so it definately is worth the extra cost which is only about $5. And weight really isn't an issue here, the copper is heavier, but its not that heavy at all to do any damage to the card.

I was thinking of getting an Ultra, and the Arctic Cooling wouldn't work on that anyway.

The Artic Silencer would work, but you would have to cut the bracket that screws into the case to install the vented exhaust bracket that comes with the NVS5...

if u've searched.. there are A LOT of people liking silencer... and A LOT MORE people liking vf700-cu..
after some research i went with vf700-cu... ewiz.com hooked it up for only $28 shipped..
my idle went down 4-5c and my load went down 10-12c after the installation...
dont worry about the weight.. it aint gonna rip anything off as long as u dont play soccer w/ ur rig..

I believe the Cu version is worth the extra weight and cost.

I also prefer the Zalman over the Arctic Cooler due to the cross-card compatibility. Its compatible with so many cards and layouts that its possible it may fit next gen cards but thats only a possibility.

270 grams isn't even that heavy compared to the Silener (470 grams?), and I currently have a Leadtek 6800 GT. I didn't even think that was too heavy. Definately the Cu version.

Yeah what Bimmer said only the Thermalright is 30g (300g total weight) heavier than the Zalman and cross card compatibility is less than the Zalman.

If you want your GPU heat expelled from the case immediately, get the silencer. Otherwise the Zalman will give slighly lower temps (at the expense of ambient case temp rising)

I have a zalman vf700cu, and I've used it on 2 cards already, with great success. Currently, it's on my OC'd x800, and the idle temps went down by about 10 degrees, while the load temps wend down by 25 degrees. Also, it's way quieter than the stock cooler, and the weight is not a big deal.

I'd highly recommend it if you're want to OC your card AND have it run cooler & quieter.

I personally really like how the Silencer direct the hot air out of the case. That was the deciding factor for me.
