What's the best widely available CRT for old games?

If you are talking desktop sized CRT, then I believe the Sony GDM-FW900 is the one to get.

I can handle 80hz refresh at 2304 x 1440, and will have much better black levels and contrast than all plasma and LCD (unless you count OLED, though I discounted that due to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$)

The Sony CRTs were typically some of the best available. They had some of the best technology in terms of picture quality, refresh rates, dot pitch, and resolution in their respective price range.

Forget consumer TVs.

Get a Sony PVM studio reference monitor and SCART RGB cables.

I'll take pics of my PVM-20M4U with my SNES if you'd like. It's like an arcade monitor, only better, if you can imagine that.

The best thing you can do is go RGB when it comes to older consoles that are pre 480p component.

Negative.

Anything that has the output (VGA, HDMI, etc) to utilize a SVGA monitor is better served with a native resolution digital panel.

For old game consoles, you want something that can do 15khz video monitor that can input RGB with composite sync @ 240p.

I heard "old games" and assumed he meant stuff like Doom and Quake.

Being that PCs are able to put out a perfect image at all times since 1980, the best display is a digital display of the native resolution that you'll be running. The only reason to care about analog quality or go CRT is older analog only low res content, Eg old game consoles running 240p

Don't think OP is asking for a TV that can run Quake at 1024x768 😉
