Whats the best way to word this?

I want to say that I have exceptional problem solving skills, due to thinking outside the box and taking unorthodox approaches to difficult problems and situations. What would be the best way to word it to put on a resume?

Cant think this late at night

Just write, "See cliche #231."

Don't say that, give EXAMPLES of how you think outside the box. Say "In my job at XYZ corp, I solved problem B by thinking outside the box and implementing F"

Actually, that stuff should go in your cover letter, not your resume, but the point still stands.

I thought it was cliche too but it seems recruiters are still looking for things like that when I compar my resume (which hasn't gotten that many responses) to my friend's (which has gotten many responses, but also filled with buzzwords and cliches like the one in this thread)

"My exceptional problem solving skills are the result of an affinity to thinking outside the box and taking unorthodox approaches to difficult problems and situations.

'Once I was locked out of my apartment and the apartment manager wasn't home. So I fashioned a lockpick out of a paperclip, broke into the apartment manager's room, and borrowed the spare key to my apartment.'

Put that on your resume, it'll demonstrate problem solving skills, thinking out of the box, and using unorthodox approaches to solve difficult problems and situations.

This statement is worthless without examples to back it up. Focus on those.

You don't put examples on a resume. You summarize. Examples are saved for when you actually go in for the interview.
