When setting up your RDC you can specify to share the drives.

I think some of the VNC clients have a file transfer function, as well.

1. open remote desktop (start, programs, accessories, communications)
2. click options
3. click local resources
4. click more(at least on the latest version of the rdp client)
5. expand drives and checkmark the drives you want to share with the RDP session.

I have never used teh remote desktop thing you speak of, but if ssh or vnc into a box ... I usually move files via FTP or I'll mount volumes via samba.

File transfers using RD have always seemed to be slow for me. I like the file transfer feature in UltraVNC (although, I prefer RD for access).
