I have a 1955 proof set I would like to sell. They seem to sell for a little over a hundred bucks on ebay.

What's the easiest way to sell it and get a fair price??

seriously, I would takes some pics and throw it up on FS/FT for a fair price using ebay or dealer pricing as a guideline.

Ebay sucks anymore, craiglist is now full of lowballers and scammers mostly.

Just put it on FS/FT.

I know I would be interested depending on the condition of the packaging and if it is original packaging or not.

You could always sell it on Amazon, too. I goofed up in 2009, and didn't buy the proof sets (for my grand nieces) during the year (who'da guess that the US Mint wouldn't sell them after the year was over??). Bought two sets, at prices slightly higher than I would've paid from the Mint, from an Amazon seller.

considering there is no inherent high value in those things, it isn't a good investment regardless.

If you have good pics I might be interested. I've seen 1955 proof sets worth $100 and other ones worth $20. There is a half-dollar also, right?

Yeah, I think so.
Turns out it was bought for me and has been sitting in a safe deposit box for like the last 30 years. I haven't seen them in at least that long, but I seem to remember they are in the original lucite type container. There may be some scratches on the lucite.

I'll have them brought to me in a couple of months. Whatever is a fair price, I'm not really into haggling..

Lucite wouldn't be original packaging.
They were sold in two different types of packaging.
"Flat pack" http://www.coinfacts.com/proof_sets/1955_proof_set.jpg
"Box" http://steinmetzcoins.com/shoppingcart/ImageResizer2.asp?i=/images/products/85013.JPG&w=250

You also see them packaged like this either in solid white plastic or in clear plastic but FYI it's not original http://www.ileeg.com/user_images/7848934.jpg
Yeah, its in the last one. That's not the original? Was that just some kind of display for it that was purchased with it?

There's probably an auto-alert function that exists so that every time you create a topic, no matter what it is, it becomes immediately monitored. If it wasn't for you the other parody topics would have lasted another thirty minutes.

I think I am also on the "No parodies unless they are very, very good and since that never happens, no parodies list"

Not purchased with it originally, a lot of people didn't like the original packaging, so you could buy those holders at coin shops and put the coins in them. Problem is that proof coins have incredibly delicate surfaces, and when moving the coins from the original packaging to the plastic holder, the coins would get fingerprints or scratches, which kills the value. That's why people need to see very good pix.

Thanks for the tip. When I get them I'll be sure to take very good pix.
