What's the best way to put inappropriate people in their place?

You know, like people at work who feel free to comment on your build, your diet etc?

I would complain discreetly to human resources, and have the offender shipped off to "sensitivity training".. Would that be a possibility in your case? Personal comments like that have NO place in the workplace.

ask em if their dental insurance is paid up as you stand with your fists clenched and sweat pouring from your brow 😛

j/k.. just tell them to 'mind ur own biz, jackass'

Edit: They're != their.. i suck at teh spelling 😛

Tell them to STFU and mind their own business. People like that need to get a life.

Ignore them. Why would anyone really care what someone says? I mean unless you had cancer or something and they were making fun of you. Then you'd probably have a reason to be upset.

Hmmm.. I'm refering more to those folks who feel free to give you their unsolicited opinions directly to your face.

"you are too thin, your face is pinched and your figure resembles that of a stick"

You tell me compliment or negative?

The way you dwell on those things here, I am willing to bet you do the same at work either indirectly or directly, so I'd venture that it's not so inappropriate on their part.

Say something like, "Perhaps, but on the bright side I could have your problems". Walk away whistling or humming a cheery song!

Actual conversation overheard at work one time:

A: You know, you really need to lose some weight. It's not healthy to be like that.
B: I am forgetting how that is your business?
A: Geez, don't take it so personally, I am just trying to say that you would feel better if you lost weight.
B: I repeat, how the hell is that any of your business? Speaking of which, how come you always laugh really funny after you say something that isn't even amusing???
A: What do you mean. I don't do that!
B: Yes you do.

etc...

Shift it back on them. It worked pretty well here...

Since there's no love lost between either of us I'll take your comments with more than a grain of salt.Btw,I am very well aware of how to properly conduct myself at work. These comments were unsolicited and left a couple other folks also standing there with their jaws dropping.

Isn't it amazing the things people feel free to say to work peers sometimes?
