What's the best way to play .mp3 on a car stereo?

My understanding is that about any CD player (for car stereos or home entertainment) made less than 2 years, will be able to play an .mp3 file format.

So what if one's equipment is more than 2 years old?

I'd really like to be able to use the amplification of my car stereo to play .mp3s...

Is there a such thing as a portable .mp3 player than can play the .mp3s via RF link back to the FM radio of the car stereo? Wondering what the quality of said product would be (if it exists).

Only other option looks to be getting a new CD player in the car and I'd rather not do that...

Any ideas/comments on the above are appreciated.

In order of quality, Best - Good - Acceptable

1) Check your head unit for an "mp3" logo. If so, burn mp3s directly to CD as data & enjoy.
2) Look for an auxilary-in port on the front. Probably 1/8". Plug a 1/8" patch cable into the line-out of a portable player (iPod, Nomad, etc) and enjoy.
3) Buy an FM transmitter that plugs into the output of your mp3 player.

Or buy a new deck with any/all of the above.
