What's the best way to pick up dog poop?

I'm trying to figure out a good way to pick up da $hit. Once I tried putting paper towel underneath the dog's butt while he was in position, but he promptly moved to a different spot. We're in an area where the grass is slightly taller than the average cut lawn. When I pick up da $hit, it just gets nasty. On a side note, is there a spray or chemical agent that I can use to harden da $hit before picking it up?

Get a small plastic bag (with no holes in it), like you get for veggies at the supermarket, turn it inside out, then use it a bit like a glove to pick it up.
Usually large carrier bags have small holes in, so they are not a good idea.

Place plastic bag over hand -> pick up sh!t -> pull bag off hand whilst holding sh!t until bag is inside-out containing said sh!t -> throw away.

I actually forgot to mention that I had some of those little plastic bag for picking up dog poop. But since we are in the process of moving I misplaced it. While picking up poop this morning, I couldn't find a small enough plastic bag. I had to use a Hefty trash bag.

LOL, go to a pet store, they sell dispensers with little plastic bags you can clip to your leash.

Also, I've seen these things that are basically a bit of cardboard attached to the open end of a mini-garbage bag, sort of a disposable pooper scooper. Would be handy for the...uh...less solid product. I can't recall their name though. They had a big dispenser of them on a dock we had our boat moored on so dogs didn't crap up the deck.
EDIT: Found em

In the summer, when the droppings are less solid, I sprinkle sand, dirt, whatever on the pile to make it easier to pick up.

what are you feeding you dog dude?
if your dog has a healthy diet and it consists of lots of fiber, his poop won't be as soft

Exactly. Just remember to hold your breath when you are performing this operation.
