I've got these lectures on 30 tapes (30 hours) that I'd like to convert to mp3. I'd like to know how to hook up my tape player (it's mono with a built in speaker and headphone jack) to my soundcard (Philips Acoustic Edge) as well as what software to use to record and convert to mp3. Also, what sampling rate would be best? I imagine since it's just a lecture I could go with a really low quality mp3 and still sound the same. I'm hoping to get at least 15 hours of it on my 64mb Rio at one time.

Gonna make for some very dull days at the gym, but at least I'll be forced to listen to em.

All feedback appreciated.

Thanks.

What u can do is hook it into ur line-in, record it to a wav file i'd say 128kbs since its a tape at 44,000hz, and use a program called LP RIPPER to find the blank spots between songs and cut the file up, i think it also encodes to mp3. If not use RAZOR Lame.

Oh yeah, and im guessing u can use a straight thru cable that has 1/8in headphone plug on both sides to go from headphone out to linein, u can get it at radioshack...but i would urge u to try to find a better tape player or borrow one something stereo like a tape deck for a home system.

Well, these are taped lectures, not music, so I'm pretty sure they're recorded mono, not stereo. I won't need to find the pauses b/w songs as the only significant pauses will be at the ends of the tape.

Thanks for the info though, I'll probably have to run to Radio Shack for the cable.

Still looking for advice on software and settings... keep em coming!

Thanks
