What's the best way to get rid of unwanted furniture?

I have a garage full of furniture that I'm trying to get rid of with little to no success. No replies to my FS/T thread. Craigslist is way too sketchy.

As a last resort I suppose I could donate it all to Goodwill / Salvation Army but I'd like to recover some of the value of the stuff.

Ideas?

Edit for you wonderful people who have trouble understanding simple concepts:
I WANT TO SELL THE FURNITURE FOR MONEY, NOT GIVE IT AWAY TO PEOPLE WHO WILL PROBABLY PISS ON IT.

Take pics of it...if it looks good I might pay you to ship it to me. My living room is empty...

If i was you, and i had to vacate the house, i would make a deal with a neighbor to take the stuff into their garage and whatever they sell, they split with you.

That's if you know anybody there that well that is willing, and wants to make a couple of bucks..
Worst thing that could happen is that they stiff you.. but that's worst case.

Last resort, is giving it to the needy :)

AJ.

^^^ You seem to have missed the part in my post where I said I wanted to recover some of the value. Therefore, ditching the furniture and/or charity are not an option.

Charity is a great option if you itemize your deductions. And of course its the perfect time of the year.

You would be surprised at the "value" of that old furniture on a tax return.

Put it at the corner of your local university. I guarantee that it'll be snatch up by some poor college kids in no time.

I guess you're not willing to wait for better weather and the obvious garage sale? Maybe there's a used furniture dealer who'd take your stuff if you don't do the garage sale?

The Salvation Army is a great place. They buy and sell used furniture. You won't get a penny for it, but you will get rid of it.

^^^ Wow, the forum's reading comprehension level is craptacular tonight.

I DO NOT WANT TO GIVE THE FURNITURE TO THE NEEDY OR A CHARITY. I WANT CASH FOR MY GOODS.

There, I hope I've made that clear. :D

I hear the DAV takes used furniture. :p

What about listing it in your local Bargain Mart/Thrifty Nickel?

Or have a yard sale?

If you went to WVU you would simply wait until a football game then burn it in the street afterward.

I cant find it but morgantown was leading the country in street fires this year. The kids have been busy this semester with around 300 reported.

If you want to get rid of it, and live in an urban or suburban area, just put one piece out at the curb every few days or as often as it disappears. You'd be surprised at what people will pick up when it's put out at the curb. If you want to speed up the situation, put a big FREE sign on the pieces.

"I'd like to recover some of the value of the stuff" doesn't command to us that you really want cash for your goods. Well, tough beans, mi amigo. Furniture depreciates faster than a Jaguar Vanden Plas. Buying the stuff in the first place assumes a sunk cost if you're keeping it for any long period of time.

It's friggin 1am. If you want a sane response, ask at a reasonable hour.
