Norton seems to not be able to get rid of the trojan. What's the best way to?

The back door trojan is a pain in the ass to remove, I would back up your inportant files and format and reinstall, then use a current virus scanner and Zone Alarm 2.6.357

No dont format boot up to dos using your startup disk go to the c: prompt and type DEL C:\WINDOWS\JBMMJC.EXE this will delete the infected file. I had to do the same thing to get rid of the backorfice2k virus, norton could not delete it because it was being used by windows, so i did whats written above and now no virus! the only catch is if its a file needed by windows you'll have to replace it later.

Good Luck,

Well - I think I'm gonna reformat. I need to do it anyway. This computer is from gateway - so It came preloaded with Windows ME. I have Windows 2000 Pro on my older computer - do you think I should install it on this one? Once I reformat - what's the best way to start re-installing my programs again?

If you have W2k by all means use it, it is far better than ME. As for reinstalling, format in NTFS then after the install start with the chipset drivers, the video, sound then any other drivers then install you programs

Norton Antivirus has already quarantined the file that contains it. You really don't need to do anything else. If you want extra piece of mind I believe Norton will let you delete the file from quarantine.
