Ok, the beer is creeping up on me. I could stand to lose a couple pounds and get that 6 pack I've never had.

What's the best excersize for this and my upper body, and dare I ask for dietary advice as well?

Anything I can do while I nef?:)

I'm in the same boat, except that I actually used to have a decent six pack. You can still see remnants of it. Oh, and quitting beer is not an option :D.

When will you people learn! You can't spot-train a part of the body, especially the stomach like that. For you to get any type of 6-pack(your abs not Budweiser), you need to lower your body fat percentage. Losing body fat is 70% diet, 30% excerise. You're gonna have to start doing cardio such as biking, lifitng some weights etc, but thats a whole other topic. Diet is whats important here. Eat small meals around 6 times a day to train your metabolism to be more efficient. Eat Carb/Protien meals in the early day, save Fat/Protien meals for the latter day. Avoid eating after 6pm. Do NOT eat carb/fat meals(all the good things you love such as candy, pizza, ice cream etc). If you dont give up drinking it will be a lot harder, since beer is all carbs and causes huge insulin spikes, YOU SHOULD NOT EAT ANYTHING while drinking. It will turn straight to fat, and this is especially terrible right before going to bed, because not only do you gain fat, you can't burn anything off while asleep. If you only drink beer and water, you'll avoid gaining a lot of the fat you would have if you also ate something.

I'm gonna take this a step further and maybe slightly disagree with diet being the important part. Yobarman's right about watching the types of meals you're eating, because losing the fat/weight is going to be all about metabolism. I don't have the energy to write it all up on here, but do some reseach as far as carbs/insulin/metabolism are concerned... and start lifting weights!! That's equally as important as diet, in my opinion... packing on some muscle will increase your metabolsm... not to mention the aesthetic benefits. :)

And yeah, of course, hop on a cardio machine for half an hour a day 4-5 times a week, minimum... that should be done no matter what shape you're in.

Yeah - the beerbelly is creeping up on you and you want to lose it, but you refuse to give up beer . . . it's like someone with lung cancer due to cigarettes, but refuses to give up smoking and somehow wants the cancer gone.

Damn how lazy are you people! :|:|:|

Life's about moderation, clueless one. If you were to eliminate all the unhealthy things in life you'd die an even unhappier death. ;)

*Moderate the beer.

*Start getting some exercise. 30-40 minutes of cardio, 4 days a week at your target heart rate and some kind of split weight lifting program 3-4 days a week.

*Moderate your diet. Most people need to increase lean protein and lower their carbs. Cut out all the sugars you can, within reason.

*Ignore "low fat" claims. They're meaningless. America has become fatter than ever on the "low fat" craze.

*Don't think, just get off your drunk ass and do it.

What Amused said. I've dropped 15lbs in a few months via lots of cycling without giving up beer or making drastic changes to my diet. Adding to your BMR "cushion" every day by exercising is a lot easier than subtracting from it by eating less (or giving up beer).

Exactly. The key to a healthy and happy life is moderation in all things. If you get moderate exercise, eat a moderate diet and moderate your alcohol intake, you'll be a far happier person. Do NOT fall for fad diets, or think you must train like a sports star. That's the surest way to failure.

You can do a small exercise in bed and you can take a few inches off.

Just lie down on ur bed, then touch your knees with your fingers by lifting up ur trunk, repeat 15 times. Take a rest, then do 3 sets with rests in between.

Then up each set to 30 times and do 3 sets, etc every time you feel it becomming too easy for you.

Works pretty well IMO

Lots of good advice in here! You can make getting in shape as compliacted as you want. Here it is simply: If you take in more calories than you burn, you gain weight (fat if you're not exercising). If you want to lose weight, burn more calories than you take in. If you want to gain muscle/lose fat = more protein in your diet + weights + cardio.

I started running about 4 months ago to get in shape. I'm a slim guy genetically, but the spare tire was slowly growing. I began running 3-4 times a week (that's all my schedule will allow) for about 25-30 minutes at a time. I also do crunches, with weight, on the days that I run. I lost/repositioned some weight, I feel healthy, have more energy, and now run a 22 min. 5K. :) While I don't have a 6-pack yet, my abs are hard as rocks. I also had to say no to some crap in my diet. I have to resist the temptation to have that second helping of dessert or that extra can of pop. One thing I've really enjoyed about running is that it curbs my appetite. I feel far less hungry when I come back from a run so I eat less (don't ask me how that works). On the days that I run, I drink lots of water throughout the day to hydrate myself properly (get muscle cramps if I don't). BTW...beer/pop!=water. If you're not willing to change your diet some, then you might as well not even bother exercising. They go hand-in-hand. Make some fitness goals for yourself or you'll probably quit after 2 weeks. Join Fausto1's workout group for some accountability if you need it! It's all about discipline!
