What's the best way to fill in holes in the wall (from nails)? Caulk?

I'm leaving my current apartment and want to fill in the holes i created in the walls from nails that i used from hanging calendars and pictures... Would caulk work? Or is there something better?

If it's just a question of getting your deposit back, toothpaste is the way to go.

Nothing fancy, just plain old white toothpaste. Works like a charm.

Toothpaste (normal white paste, not the gels.)

Or a small tub of spackle should only cost ba few bucks if the holes are larger than nail holes.

Caulk? Umm, no. Spackle is what you want. Can get it at any hardware type store. Or the toothpaste solution if you're cheap.

Toothpaste will work for the small holes, but I've seen the oils in toothpaste bleed through the next layer of paint...I prefer to use a good quality spackling compound. Just about as easy to use and won't bleed through the paint.
