What's the best way to determine if a Hard Drive is bad

I've got a Western Digital 120gb 8mb Cache 7200rpm PATA drive but I'm not sure if it's good or not. Does Western Digital have any utilities that I can use to scan the drive or am I basically going to be in the dark on this?
