What's the best way to clean my keyboard?

I dropped a big glob of icecream on it last night and the keys are all dirty. I was thinking of taking out the keys and soaking them in soapy water. Are they dishwasher safe? That seems easier :p

I take out all the keys and put them in a mix of alcohol+water. Then I clean the hell out of the inside. I do this once per year and it's disgusting.

Go to OfficeMax, buy one for $10 or sometimes they have free after MIR keyboards.

How the heck do you get the keys off your boards? I've got a Dell Quietkey and I'm afraid to just pop the keys off with a screwdriver...but is that how they come off?

Yes. Just don't take off any of the big keys. They are a bitch to put back on.

Are you sure it's "ice cream"? Ask the big time porn surfers how they clean their keyboards ;)

i cleaned mine before and it did come apart easily. when i took all the bottom screws out, it opened easily. i did it many times in fact. make sure the cable isnt blocking the way.

as for the question. easiest way is to uncrew the keyboard, take the bottom and top pieces out and rinse them out. maybe in the washing machine would be good. gets them very nice and clean.

screwdriver. take it apart, its quite simple inside, then you can clean away wtihout worry.

or you could just constantly buy new ones:) ussually about 15-25 for a decent one anyways, i don't seem to use a keyboard long enough for dirt to build up:p

as long as you take it apart...the circuit sheets inside trap water inbetween and will corrode before any chance of drying normallly..... so dont just shove the entire thing in the washer. i've hosed off an old logitech before, and after 24 hrs of drying it didn't work.. i took it apart, and yup, all corroded:p

take it apart for deep cleaning. for light cleaning just use water or whatever cleaner, qtips and whatever u need. go to homedepot and you can probably find a day laborer to do it for you for 8 bux.
