Ok I have a really high metabolism and have been trying to build up for over 2 years. first I tried doing abselutly nothing too build up some fat but i just cant gain any fat on me no matter how much i sit around and eat all day. I also lifted weights for quite a while and ate a lot and it still did nothing to build me up. Does anyone know of a way that I can build up? Im also going into the army and becoming a ranger in about 8 or 9 months so i need to rasie my running endurance level to three miles without stopping. Is it possible for me to both build up and gain the endurance i need? Any input you guys have would be great.

Your problem is that you eat all day! You must starve yourself... then binge! This will send your body into survival mode and you will pack on the weight!

Then you need to eat even more. It will he a little bit hard to build up and gain endurance at the same time when you start. Endurance demands a lot cardio and to build up you want to "save" your proteins, carbs, etc

Hmm maybe that could be it. I do sometimes eat one meal a day and do range in weight from 155 to as low as 140 sometimes. So eating like three meals a day at the right times will help? any others tips?

Good Luck w/that :D

My only recommendation is DO NOT TAKE ANY SUPPLEMENTS THAT ARTIFICIALLY CHANGE YOUR METABOLISM! Not healthy.

I started Navy Bootcamp at a skinny 116 lbs, graduated bootcamp at 116 lbs (Navy bootcamp's a breeze - I was disappointed there wasn't a better physical fitness program at the time). Weight trained and carbo loaded a meal a day for nearly a year and almost no change in weight. It wasn't until my mid 20's that my metabolism slowed down and then I had to work out just to keep my weight from gaining :(

Your diet will be your biggest tool being that your high metabolism will only be bolstered by exercise and weight training. Go for endurance training, the rest will come. Besides, endurance will be what gets you through hell week... if you make it that far :D

I cannot stress the importance of dairy products enough. When I went to college (I'm 6 feet tall) I was 155, by the time I came home for Christmas that year I was down to 130. I'm now (2.5 years later) back up to 155 because of a couple things. First, I drink roughly 1/3 of a gallon of whole milk every day, alone, that simply stabilised the weight, and stopped the loss. Second, I got a mini-fridge and I keep basic foods in there (eg, chicken soup, stuff like that) and whenever I feel hungry, I eat. That's the most important part since I can't ever eat a lot in one sitting. I tend to have 3 "snack meals" a day in addition to 2 full meals. I've been pretty stable at 155 for the last few months, so I think this is where I'm "supposed" to be as far as weight. Try those things, eating a bunch of junk food (the first method I tried) doesn't work well because you just burn all the sugar off really fast and nothing stays with you. Starches are your friends.

-Eat a minimum of 5000 calories a day
-Do super high weight 3-5 reps and you should only be able to do the first 1 alone. I mean work, pain and a good spotter.
-do no more than 3 sets per excersise
-Stick with the basics large muscle groups, power cleans, bench press, squat, dead lift, and barbell curls

To answer your question:
sleep more, seriously.
eat more and eat often.
do squats and deadlifts.
cut back on your exercise.

IMHO, if you are going for the Rangers, forget gaining wieght. Build your endurance or you'll get killed trying to keep up. Do push ups and chins and pullups, you be doing a lot of those.

What if I cant sleep for more than 8 hours? I can stay up for a really long time and then only sleep for 8 to 10 hours then wake up. On school nights I cant sleep more than about 6 solid hours.

I'm in the same position as you, sorta. In order for you to gain weight, you will need to take in more calories than you spend. But that doesn't mean sit on your ass all day and spend 5 calories/hr watching TV and taking in 4000 calories. You'll just end up pooping it out.

You need to do physical activities to burn up those calories, then eat a little more each day. You can't expect to pack on 30 pounds in a few months... only girls can do that. :D When I was working out, I gained about half a pound a week, but I am still a little underweight. Now that I have some free time thanks to my broken up relationship, I'll be hitting the gym more often. Oh yeah, and eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and food high in protein, they are miracle food when working out!

How well do you sleep? 8 good hours of sleep is enough. Do wake up tired?

Sleep is essential. Your body is "burning" with no, or restless sleep. I never was much of a wine drinker before I got married, but a glass in the mid-late eves (Pinot Noir, or Merlot--not heavy Cab's) makes me feel very relaxed. I wake up anxious for my workout, instead of smashing the snooze button...........

You didn't eat enough. I've seen slim guys tell me they can't pile on weight and they "eat all the time", but they simply don't. If you're doing weights and walking around at the virge of puking constantly full of high quality protein rich food you'll put on weight. Your metabolism can't chew through 5000 calories a day without putting extra weight on. That's the price you have to pay.

5000 calories a day is easy...

Mega Mass 2000 weight gainer...

Loaded with protein, high carbs and calories.. 2000 calories per drink... nothing beats that for weight gain

like the previous post mentioned.. starches.. Potatoes... any way you can eat them.. fried, baked, mashed, fried, fried.. :)

Meat.. you need lots of meat in your diet... I wouldn't be concerned with what types... red meat would be recommened due to its fat content.. Steak, ground beef are good choices..
Lots of chicken as well.. Eat four times a day.. and then add a weight gaining protein drink to that...
I would not recommend eating more than 4 meals + 1 drink per day...
I wouldn't recommend trying to slow down your metabolism.. I mean.. what is to say that once you've messed your body up like that, that your metabolism will return to normal? What if that chance that your metabolism stays at that level? Then your fu<ked!.. I myself, have a very slow metabolism.. so I have to eat anywhere from 5-6 times a day to keep my metabolism in check...

Im 18 years old. I just baked up 3 potatoes for myself for breakfast lol. I usually dont eat breakfast because my stomach hurts later. I figure if i start getting used to eating in the morning that it will go away.

To be honest, you prolly don't stand much of a chance at getting past your metabolism right now, mine slowed down when I hit 23/24years old, maybe yours will around your mid 20's also. It's all in your genetics though, some people can eat 5 solid meals a day and gain slowly, some can eat a horse and not gain an ounce. At 18 it's very hard to tell.

I've come up with a basic sort of diet plan for me

here it is:
Breakfast 7:00 Am
2 glasses of milk, fruit, and cereal or toast and eggs

Lunch 11:30

afterschool
2 glasses of milk, bread product, and fruit

Dinner
Meat product, 2 glasses of milk, potatoes, and other vegetable

Late night
dont know yet

Only problem I have is im never sure what lunch is but there is usually a meat of some sort, bread, fruit, and milk i also have a bottle of Dr. pepper or something
