What's the best vodka, and best bang for the buck vodka?

Just finished a bottle of JA Baczewski Vodka Monopolowa the other day. It was a good vodka for the price (about fifteen bucks for a liter.) Best one in the sub-thirty-buck range I've had so far.

Best vodka is Grey Goose in experts opinion...I myself am no expert.

I don't really like vodka that much; scotch is my drink.

Stolichnaya for both.
I preffer it to Grey Goose, and it's cheaper.
Anything cheaper than Stoli is only good for aftershave IMO ;)

I was speaking to an expert last weekend and he told me that there is very little difference, if any amongst modern vodkas. He explained that the cheapo stuff is the same as a bottle of Absolut, but at a fraction of the cost.

Drink Skol, and then drink Grey Goose, and tell me if there is no difference!

Yes, there is a difference between grain vodka and potato vodka.

Vodka is a neutral spirit. You shouldn't taste a huge difference between brands.

I've heard Chopin is pretty good, but I've never had it myself. Some of my friends rave about it, though...

Iceberg. Hands down best for your buck. It's right up there with Grey Goose and Belvedere too, but for 1/3 the cost.

I still drink Skyy. In Madison, WI I could get a 1.75 for $20 at most liquor stores. Ah, those were the day.s

Tell us more, wise drunkard. :D

I'm not an expert, but as far as I know the majority of the name-brand mainstream vodkas are 100% grain. And according to some, they all taste pretty much the same. Buy according to the coolest bottle, if you must. However, vodka made from 100% potato is where one can begin to taste each brand's subtle differences. Go on recommendations or experiment, but be prepared to pay a hefty premium for the better quality stuff. Or, do what I do: Buy a twenty-sixer of Smirnoff [crap], a bottle of your favourite tonic [mine happens to be Schweppes], add a slice of lime, and a few ice cubes. Drink. Repeat.

My favorite is Stolichnaya Gold. But Iceberg (or Candian Iceberg as it's sometimes called) is really good and not too expensive.

Thanks for the low-down. I'm more interested in a clean tasting vodka with the least hangover potential for me and my guests. I went looking for some Luksosowa because of the reviews, but I couldn't find a store in NorCal that had any. :(
