I was thinking about getting the XFX GeForce 6800gs XXX

Is this a good choice or is there a better card for around the same price or cheaper?

i have the same exact card, runs @520/1180mhz, very nice card. also you might want to consider the x850xt roughly the same price, and is the faster card beween the two.

Though a 6800GS at 520/1200 will crush a X850XT (okay okay, it will be almost the same if not slightly better) and you'll have SM3.0 and HDR support, of course you can always OC the X850XT but you can't beat the 6800GS single slot cooling.

7600GT

ok so it's not out yet- but only 4 or 5 weeks and it's gonna rule this price point!

You think? Recent rumors put the 7900 GTX in April, and I would think it would be at least then before the 7600 GT is released.

Even when it is released we don't really know how it will compare to other current cards, but if I had to hazard I guess, I'd say it'd be just a little better than the 6800GT/GS, and probably at the same price point that the 6800GS is at now.

So basically, I still say get the 6800GS now as there is no point in waiting another two months or even one month to buy a video card when we all know a newer, better, cheaper one is always a month or two away, unless of course you are looking for an upgrade for a particular game or application, in which case you should definitely wait for the benchmarks to starting rolling out for that game before you make a purchase.

6800GS, but if you can actually get an X850XT for that price, it's a better deal.

There's no way you'll outperform it with a 6800GS, since the X850XTs OC rather well also.

Well, unless you play Doom 3 all the time, or really need SM 3.0...

u talking agp only? and new?

~$200 can get u a 7800gt on craigslist pretty easily, contingent on your bargaining skills.

Yeah according to Mikes Hardware it's coming on March 20th- so more like 6-7 weeks I guess. Not sure what the OP's timeframe is but the next 2 months are going to see a lot of card releases= more choices and some falling prices. If he/she can wait- it will pay off. Need a card right now? 6800GS or cheaper? oc'ed x800GTO-$150 on Newegg.

GTO^2 flashed to a x850xtpe

If you want you could buy an aftermarket HSF and OC that bad boy even farther.
