For games or for CAD type work? There are different answers.

i was also thinking about setting up dual monitors. i would mostly be using it for browsing and some gaming.

what are the requirements with video cards, are there certain ones with certain features that i need to look for?

thanks,

No games. General office multi-tasking. Some graphics work (photoshop and premiere) .. nothing heavy. Primarily for web browsing, MS Word/PP, Outlook .. all at the same time. Thanks!

the matrox G400/450 have excellent dual head capabilities.
gaming isn't its strongest point but just about all games are playable with decent frame rates!
its 2D performance is the best! :)

wow,

i was looking at mwave for the card, they have the MATROX MILLENNIUM G450 DUAL 32MB AGP 2X/4X DDR MEMORY for $98.00. does this mean that i will only need one of these cards rather than getting two cards of another brand?

Thanks guys. Any idea what the differences are in between the G400 and G450? And the MAX? Thanks again!

400 -> 400MAX - Max = higher core/memory mhz, otherwise, the same.

450 - DDR support not as fast as 400MAX - slow 3D

550 - Should wait for this...

So, the 450 is slower than the 400MAX. Is the 450 also slower than the 400? Thanks.

To be honest, I think the best video cards out there that support dual monitors is the Fire GL4 or Wildcat II 5110 (both around $2000). However, this probably isn't quite within your price range.

Yes, the vanilla G400 is slightly faster than the G450. if you want an in-depth review, go search for Anand's review on the main page. :)
