Considering performance and price, which card is best to do this with?

I'm considering Nvidia Geforce 8800GT since their website says it has good performance and value, but i could be wrong. what do you guys think?

Does your case have good airflow? Because a major downer of SLI or CF (this is assuming your mobo can support one or the other) is the amount of heat they produce. If you have an nVidia chipset board, the 8800 GTs would be good, or the newly released 9600 GTs wouldn't be bad either since in certain games they outperform the 8800s and the scaling with SLI they have is a significantly higher than previous models. Is there price limit you have?

so i'm actually ordering a new pc right now from one of those custom PC builder websites, but I'm going to buy my graphics card, and RAM separately and install them myself because they overcharge too much on those items.

I will mainly use this computer for gaming. Some games I plan on playing are Call of Duty 4, Age of Conan, Starcraft 2, Sims 2, etc.

Here's the desktop PC I plan on buying in the near future:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# CASE: Apevia X-Telstar Aluminum Full Tower 420W Case w/ Temp Display and Fan Control [+63] (Black Color)
# CASE UPGRADE: 12in COLD CATHODE NEON LIGHT [+10] (BLUE COLOR)
# CASE_FAN: Default case fans
# CPU: (Quad-Core)Intel® Core? 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 1066FSB 8MB L2 Cache 64-bit
# CD: (Special Price) 20X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE DUAL LAYER (BLACK COLOR)
# CD2: (Special Price) 20X DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW DRIVE DUAL LAYER [+42] (BLACK COLOR)
# FLASHMEDIA: INTERNAL 12in1 Flash Media Reader/Writer (BLACK COLOR)
# FAN: CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan (Extreme Silent Operation at only 22dBA + Overclock Proof) [+19]
# FLOPPY: 1.44 MB FLOPPY DRIVE (BLACK COLOR)

# HDD2: 320GB SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 16MB Cache 7200RPM Hard Drive [+85]
# MOTHERBOARD: (QX9650 Support) Asus P5N-D nForce 750i SLI Chipset LGA775 FSB1333 DDR2 Mainboard [+33]
# MEMORY: (Req.DDR2 MainBoard)1GB (1x1GB) PC6400 DDR2/800 Memory [-40] (Corsair XMS2 Xtreme Memory w/ Heat Spreader [+12])
# NETWORK: ONBOARD 10/100 NETWORK CARD
# OS: Microsoft® Windows Vista? Home Basic w/ Service Pack 1 [+89] (32-bit Edition)
# PRO_WIRING: Professional Wiring for All WIRINGs Inside The System Chasis with High Performance Thermal Compound on CPU [+19]
# POWERSUPPLY: 600 Watts Power Supplies [+59] (CoolerMaster Unit 600 Watts eXtreme Power - SLI Supports)
# SOUND: 3D WAVE ON-BOARD 5.1 SOUND CARD
# SPEAKERS: Logitech R-20 2.1 Configuration Subwoofer Speakers System [+9]

# VIDEO CARD: NONE [-82]
# VIDEO CARD 2: NONE [-82]
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Price so far is: $1,115

Now this is where i need help. I don't know which video card(s) to get. I plan on spending about $300 give or take a hundred on video card(s), but I don't want to spend more money than I have to. Should i just get a Geforce 8800 GTS, or go dual video cards with some cheaper card?

I plan on buying 3 more GB of Corsair XMS2 PC6400 DDR2/800 Memory

Also tell me if there is something wrong with my setup, like if I need more power or cooling of some sort, or like if parts of my setup aren't compatible.

There's no reason you couldn't save even more money by building the whole system yourself :p, that seems awfully pricey for what you're getting.... As for overclocking the Q6600, if you have sticks in all 4 dimm slots you'll most likely lose some of the achievable overclock with your chip. As for the video cards, either one is a good choice, the 9600 GTs SLIed is going to cost about 350-360 while the GTS costs about 250-270. Performance-wise for the games you mentioned, a single 9600 GT might actually be sufficient since it's performance is near the 8800 GT/GTS.

Ummm depends, you also have to factor the shipping for the completed system and the individual parts, sometimes companies can supply cheaper since the shipping on a variety of parts together can sum up to a large amount.
