whats the best AGP video card i can get for 50 or less? I'm currently using a radeon 8500 with 64mb. I dont mind if its a refurb from newegg.
I'd like to play bf2 with it, and i dont need blazing max quality.

My system specs are
amd xp 2400
ecs mobo
1gb ram

You might see if anyone in the FS/T forums here is selling an old 9500 Pro or something similar...other than that, I wouldn't expect to find much of anything at all.

Your best bet is to go with what gac009 has suggested, or as synthdude suggested. Do NOT get an FX5200!! That does not qualify as a gfx card IMHO! Besides, all the cards from the Radeon 9000Pro to the 9250 are just stripped down 8500s. Not worth upgrading to any of them as your performance will be worse.

I'd stick with the 8500 until you have about $100 at a minimum. Once in a while a used 9700/9800 pops up for $80-$90. A soft mod 6200>6600 would be nice as well. 9500 pros are nice, but somewhat scarce.

Yep, the 8500 continues to be the best value under $50, especially as it meets some minimum system requirements the GF4 series doesn't (cough) BF2 (cough) 😛

As far as the 5500 goes, I wouldn't touch it. Like a previous poster said, picking up a 9800 Pro for around $100 is your best bet performance wise. Plus, you could get $30 out of your 8500 without too much work on the FS/FT forums.

I seen 4 or 5, 9500 pro's here for about 65 dollars. Thats your best bet.

Better yet, you might find a 9500 non-pro with the memory arranged in an L-shape. Those can be modded into a 9700p, which would give you a big boost over a 8500.

A 9500 Pro is a great upgrade from an 8500. The same theoritcal fill rate, but man is 8x1 faster than 4x2! I used my 8500 for a year, then my 9500 Pro for 1.5 years, great cards both of them, the 9500 Pro is very noticeable step up and really lets you crank BF1942 all the way up w/AA&AF and it will look night and day differnt than your 8500. I know that from experience 😛
