Interested in ideas for my new system. I will O/C the card too. Probably a Geforce 6800 GT vs X800 pro flashed to x800XT??

Depends on how you plan to use this card....

and what system it is going into (PCI-E or AGP)...

EDIT >> This would be best asked in the Video forums...

well.. i think the question is what game do you want to use it for?

for doom3, the nvidia 6800gt is the way to go...

for hl2, the x800pro is probably a better choice....

^^ haha ^^

The BFG Golden Sample can OC the best. I'm more of an ATI guy myself, so I'd rather get a Pro and flash it, but it's up to you.

I don't have a particular game. I haven't played either (I know HL2 isn't out yet)

I just want the best overall VC once it is OC'd

6800GT. Overall best card for $400.

I saw on the ATI site that the x800PE is $500. Not bad for the best card available. Only problem is it is outof stock.

Most get their 6800GTs to ultra speeds, mine is right now. I can tell you that the 6800GT will be better OVERALL than the X800 pro. Sure, both have ups and downs in certain areas, but after all benchmarks are said and done the GT will generally have higher scores.

6800's perform better in linux than x800s? Or are there just no/crappy x800 linux drivers?

Completely agree OCs are easy with 6800GTs.
I use Power Strip and it is very stable.

I thought PCI-E only had the GTO which was 12 pipes and substancially inferior to the AGP 6800GT?

there is a REAL 6800GT for PCIe, it's just pretty hard to find right now. Soon, it'll be pretty common, after all the A64 PCIe chipsets are available. No matter how you look at it, though, you can't do better for $400 than a 6800GT. The BFG version is overclocked by default, and comes with a lifetime warranty, so go for that if you can find it. Best buy sells it for $400, and if you can get your hands on one of those 10% off coupons you find every month or 2, you can get it for $360. The X800 Pro is just too crippled to compete. On the other hand, if you can find an X800XT (non-platinum) for close to $400, then go for that - i think it's supposed to be in the $450 or below range, but I haven't seen it for that cheap as of yet.
