If you remember, these things put out a rediculous amount of heat. Preferrably under $30 and quiet. The cpu won't be overclocked.

In General the best HS/Fan for the socket (which is debatable) will work best for all the CPU's... so do you want super cooling (ie water, Ice) and do you have the 4 hole Mobo? not to mention what ScrapSilicon cause space is required.

Sorry I didn't make this very clear, I'm not trying to supercool it, just looking for a decent cooler thats got a good "bang for the buck".

Well my favorite for price/performance is the AX7 (if you can find one) which works great with low noise/CFM Fans, either way you can not go wrong with Thermals.

I'd go with a ThermalTake Silent Boost or Vantec Aeroflow. Maybe a ThermalRight ALX-800+Panaflo M1A or Enermax Adujustable 80mm or 92mm (rotated) if you can find the combo for your target budget.

The Vantec Aeroflow is a pretty good HS, it's keeping my 2500+ @ 2.2 (1.75V) at 45C.

it doesn't put out all that much. if you compare to a p3 or soemthing yea but not compared to todays cpus. look up wattages. get whatevers cheap, the cpu isn't worth a super cooler, anything will work. it won't oc anyways.

Well this isn't for me, its for a guy I sold my old palmino 2100+ to. He's using an "old generic HSF unit" and its running at 64C load and locking up.

SVC GC68 should be plenty for the job and it's around $5. It's reasonably quiet.

how generic? palos work damn fine with their amd retail aluminum heatsinks, which are rather ghetto to begin with. that generic hsf must really really suck to lock up the chip. he's putting only a tiny amount of paste on there right? make sure its not gobs. i ran a palo with a p3 based celeron hs without trouble.

eh, i guess its especially lousy for its time then. seriously, the only reason to spend more the 15-20 dollars is to get a big copper cooler to run as quiet as possible. but then again i somehow doubt the rest of the guys system is quiet enough to merit such a thing.
