If you had to recommend an album to someone who never listen to U2, which album would you recommend?

1-All That You Can Leave Behind
2-Joshua Tree
3-Actung Baby

And I hear they got one coming out later this year. I played the hell out of leave behind, some them twice in concert on that tour....I can't wait!

I can't even listen to All That You Can't Leave Behind anymore because it depresses me too much. Even moreso than Joshua Tree. Does that mean it is better than Joshua Tree? Does anyone else find that U2 is deeply depressing/melancholy music? Is that what makes it so good? Rattle and Hum sucked. Compilation album would probably be best for new listener, as style changed a bit. But really, how can anyone just own *one* U2 album? (no pun intended). Joshua tree defined them for the american market, atyclb probably their most well refined best designed album ever. achtung is good without requiring as much emotional investment from the listener. Do I need medication?

A very tough question to answer. I flip-flop around myself and I have been digging on U2 since I bought an import of theirs from Singin' Dog records, back in 1979 or 1980.

You can't go wrong with:
War
Under a Blood Red Sky
Joshua Tree
Achtung Baby
All That You Can't Leave Behind

Thats one of their worst.

The Joshua Tree is one of their best.

A greatest hits would be a good recommendation. They have so many good songs from different albums

Here's a U2 song from 25 years ago .
