Whats the best sub 150 speakers?

Ok, I have a small room, and I'd like some decent speakers. Does connecting via SPDIF really make a difference, my mobo comes with a s bracket w/SPDIF

Oh good lord, it's no contest. Z-560s all the way. If anyone tells you otherwise, they either haven't heard them or are trying to sell you something.

make sure you listen to the z560s or 641s (or whichever speaker you're considering)!!! I don't like logitech's bass, that's why I prefer the 641s. But you may, so make sure you listen yourself.

Or maybe they just know a better speaker set when they hear one

I say Altec 641's. I don't own them, but I do own Logitech Z560's.
Yes, the Z560's bass is loud, but also too muddy and extremely low frequencies distort (as my RMA units do).
The 641's have much better high's and mid's.

Monsoon MH505.

I had a set of Z560s. Then I got these. IMO these speakers are superior to the Z560s.

Not surprisingly, since the 505s are picking up a bit in popularity, the price has gone up at mwave to 151 and they're not in stock.

Well, it depends. I've used the Logitech Z560s... and they're nice. And you can get them for a decent price.

But if you're really serious, just find you a halfway decent stereo receiver that will take SPDIF in. And buy speakers for the receiver. Not to mention you can plug up a DVD player and/or your TV..... but that'll run you more than $150. 🙂

all in all, it probably doesn't matter much. I would go with the 560s if you're just looking for pretty-good sound.

Best of luck.

The Monsoon speakers mentioned above and the ProMedia 2.1 (also mentioned previously) will tend to offer better all around sound... that is a fairly good balance of highs, mids, and lows. The Altec Lansings mentioned above will tend to sound fairly nice but a little more muddy than the ProMedia speaker system. The Z-560s will offer very apparent bass with decent (along the lines of the Altec Lansings) highs.

So based on what you're really looking for, I'd get either the ProMedia 2.1, Z-560, or MH505.

EDIT: Refurb ProMedia 4.1 ... I wouldn't buy speakers refurb. Even if Klipsch was the ones that fixed them to factory specs.

Has anyone ever tried refurbished Klipsch equipment? This sounds like a really good deal (although everyone seems to be liking the Monsoon's and Z's better)

My only concern regarding Z-560 is:
IT IS LOUD!

Err... actually that's my A$$H0LE Neighbour's complain... every day.... 😉

I have the refurb. Promedia 4.1, (almost 5 months) and all I can say is they were worth every penny.
They sound great.
Go with what you can afford and like...

z560s. I bought them and was worried about the 'loudness'. Well, it's easy to configure and to make sure the bass isn't overwhelming. These speakers rock!
