How about you just save another $50 and get the Klipsh Promedias for $250. They're supposed to be the best on the market right now. The Midiland S4 7100 are pretty good too and can be found for about $150 online or even in some retail stores.

I'll second the recommendation on the Klipsch Pro Media's. They're not cheap at $250 but they are sweet. If you check Outpost.com you can get them shipped overnight for free. Not bad considering these are about 25lbs to ship.

Well my Altec Lansing speakers just died (last time I buy AL). So i need some new ones as well. I want the Klipsch Promedias, but don't really want to pay 250 for them (I am about to pay 1500 bucks for speakers for my car :|). Anywhere else that might have them a little cheaper?

The Klipsch speakers are great... I've heard them going full blast and they are incredibly loud. If you can afford those, get them. Otherwise, check out Cambridge Soundwork's PCWorks FourPointSurroud speaker set up. These are the speakers I have and they are a great set of speakers for the money. I have them set up in my room as follows: Sub on floor and one speaker in every corner on the ceiling. When they're on full volume, it's uncomfortable to listen to them because it's so loud. There isn't any distortion at full blast either. I figure that if they're louder than I want to be, what's the point in getting speakers that are even louder (e.g. the Klipsch ones)?

In summary:

Under $200: PCWorks FourPointSurround by Cambridge Soundworks
Over $200: Promedia by Klipsch

I know that its only 2.1 not 4.1...but the Boston Acoustics Media Theater is a REALLY good set. They're $150 - and well worth it. The sub just pounds...

I got them from a trader here for $140 shipped (shipping was $20 for him, USPS parcel post, insurance) and I really like them. I can make them loud enough so you can go outside, across my street, down 2 houses, and still hear it.

I bought them really for music and not games so 4.1 didn't mean anything more to me - it only means that each speaker physically costs less and generally that means they are lower quality.

From what I have heard, the Klipsch are very good.

Also, Videologic are expanding into the US now, so perhaps the prices are going to become cheeper, so perhaps the Sirocco would be a good bet

If youre going to do something, i would try and do it right. The extra cash could mean a set of speakers that you can base your house on, rather than just a computer. Link a stereo base into the Klipsch's and use them as your stereo speakers. (they are that powerful and clear) For the money, youre getting one hell of a speaker set.

Just wondering, Zorba, what model speakers were they? I've got two dead sets of ACS56s, currently RMA'ing the second set. I regret ever buying from these dimwits.

I have had the Cambridge soundworks FPS2000 for a year now (got them for $115 at buy.com back then), and I must say they still impress me. The sound quality of these speakers is 99% within the range of the Klipsh, only don't go so extremly loud (after all, i'd like to keep my house in one piece, not to mention i want to grow old being able to still hear!)
I highly recommend these speakers. Not to mention they are so small and cute :)

For under 200 bucks definetly the Boston Acoustics BA4800's, the fps2000 and acs56's cant touch the ba4800's.
If you got the extra 50 bucks you could get the promedia's, but they have absolutly no mid's just lots of bass and high's.

Check out 3D Sound Surge for lots of speaker reviews.
