What's the best removable media for a laptop?

Hey all -

So I got this brand-spanking new laptop. And it's nice, and it does a lot. DVD drive, floppy drive can swap with extra battery, can bring it everywhere I go... but I got a concern.

I would love to be able to at least back up my data ocassionally. I already lost data once -- my own fault -- and don't want to again.

On my desktop, I have both a ZIP and CDRW drive. So depending on what I need, I can write to a Zip or blank CD.

For my laptop, though, I have no such options.

So, what's my best bet? I'm not worried so much about transferring data to my desktop (although that would be a plus) as to have a backup of my data in case of formatting needs.

I was looking at the Clik from iomega and the Shark from the defunct Avatar, as well as PCMCIA hard drives. What's your recommendation? I need more than a floppy's worth of space, but I don't necessarily need gigs.

Price is a major concern here.

Was the Shark made in a PCMCIA format, as the Clik is? Able to be inserted into your PCMCIA slot with no additional space required? 'cause I like that quite a bit in the Clik, although I dislike the 40mb space size -- it's sufficient, just seems a bit pricy.

Would I be better off getting another hard drive?

What do you people think?

Thanks,
Andrew

Zip 250 USB is a good choice since you already got a Zip at home. The new 250 USB doesn't require any external power other than from usb port.

Ummm... What's a thumbdrive? I did a search on Yahoo, followed the one link, and the only possibility from the company that came up was the Q drive -- a USB harddisk.

Is that it?

Thanks,
Andrew

Why not just back up onto your desktop machine via a network connection and then onto ZIP or CD-R?

Still -- what's a thumbdrive?

And as to transferring my files via network -- I want to have an option for while I'm on the road. Right now, I'm on a dialup 5 hours from my desktop -- I would like to not have to worry about the files I'm working on at the moment.

Thanks,
Andrew

OK, I see...

A thumbdrive is a little thumb-sized memory module that attaches to your USB port.
