Southwest California

San Diego is great, certain parts of LA County and Orange County are nice but too much traffic. Even Santa Barbara is great. I don't know how you people can live in winters where you can't go outside at all.

I live in the south-east, but it's a bit awkward for me being someone that doesn't fit into the mold. What's interesting is that the area that I grew up in is also somewhat similar. People are fairly religious and very "rural", but it still feels more excessive here.

Overall, I just don't know the areas well enough to judge them.

I don't know how you people can live in winters where you can't go outside at all.

You can go outside in the winter. I've lived in Michigan for 31 years, 29 of which were in the U.P. There's tons to do in the winter time up here, and if you're into skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, etc etc it makes the winter much more enjoyable. If you just sit inside and be miserable the whole time, it makes for a long winter.
