Whats the best PSU to buy for my pc?

Alright, I want to buy a new PSU cause my current one sucks. Its 400 watts from some real cheap company and about 3 years old but I think its not giving out enough juice. I have opteron 144 overclocked to 2.4 GHz, Epox 9npa+ Ultra, eVGA 6800GS, Corsair 1GB valueram running at PC3200, got about 6 case fans, 1 dvd burner, 1 cd burner, a floppy, 2 hard-drives(each are like 7500 rpm or something). Whats the best PSU to buy to power them up? My budget is small right now - I am willing to spend up to 50 bucks. Need some recommendations. Thanks guys.

Fortron 400W (with shipping you won't be able to afford the 450W one which is the normal recomendation). About $42 on newegg.

Why fortron? Whats the advantage of it over the other companies?

For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182003 --- With shipping included, is the worth the 2 bucks less than the Fortron 450W PSU?
1) Its faster by 50 watts.
2) Cheaper.(not a big factor but its still important for me because I don't want to go out of my money range)
3) 1 more fan than with the Fortron.(again, not a huge factor)
4) Rosewill has LEDs(another add-on but again, it has nothing to do with performance, true)
5) It has fan-speed control.
6) Reviews from newegg buyers are good for both PSUs(doesn't mean much cause newegg could be taking off all the bad reviews but I am just saying)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCo...List=N82E16817182003%2CN82E16817104954 -- comparing the 2. Fortron has free shipping so if you all think Fortron is better, I will go for that. Only 2 bucks extra - don't mean much..

Rosewill is like NewEggs house brand, made and selled by them. Just about every Rosewill product is low-grade.

Edit: Also, NEVER skimp on the PSU, the most important part of the system.

😀

The roseswill isn't worth the money to ship it, a rebranded generic PSU. While it might run your PC i wouldn't trust it to do even that for a short time let alone long term.

Here's a half-baked list 😀 http://www.jonnyguru.com/ratethebrands.html

Now don't go off half-cocked because nothing is static for the worst on this list.

I use FSP Group w/FSP as the first part of the part#, Zippy/Emacs and just bought an Enhance.
A decent poor man's PSU can be had for $50 and one needn't spend more than $120 for the best.

OP, buy the cheapest PSU you can find. There might be some for cheap in our For Sale or Trade Forum.
Use no surge protector or heaven forbid a UPS, then come back crying of instability or worse.

Those are not customer reviews. They are more accurately called customer or consumer statements. Please don`t get the 2 confused...
There is a huge difference between a review and a customer statement.

Also people still are using the phrase "the best".......
There is noway on earth anybody can define "the best"!!
To the person who has been using the same antec PSU for years that is the best to that person.

To the person who has the latest greatest bling bling PSU that is the best to them.

To the person who spends $200 on a PSU you can most certainly say that is the best to them.

To the person who will buy nothing that is rebadged that is the berst to them.

To the person who needs 80%+ efficiency that is the best PSU to them.

Even the CAP issues such as what brand CAPs does my PSU have?
Well quite frankly even amongst those who won`t buy a certain brand becuase of the CAPs that are being used you have a split community.

My point is there is NO cut or dry answer as to what PSU is the best...

There are only opinions.....

Do your homework and don`t skimp on the most important part of your PC and you will be fine!!

whether you go Forton.....OCZ.....Ultra......Sin Tek.....Zippy/Emacs or PC Power & Cooling and the list goes on and on and on......

ust do the homework!!

If you have your heart set on a PSU that allows for the pots to be adjusted has 5 LED fans and a Coffee maker attached to it thats OK!! Just make sure you do your homework.

In closing I would not skrimp on my PSU!! I have seen and heard of people losing all there components due to PSU going out on them.

So do your homework!!

Good Luck!!
