Whats the best Processor for Quad Core

Hello,

I am planning a new desktop build and here are my specs:

Cooler Master Centurion
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775
XFX PVT88PYDF4 GEforce 8800GT 512 MB
2- 500GB Seagate Barracuda HD
2-Samsung 20x DVD+R DVd Burner

I want a Intel Quad Core Processor and use DDR2 memory 800/1066. In the pass I always bought Kingston memory. Let me know of other good memory vendors.

What is the best processor and memory config for this system? I will not be overclocking, just running VM's/ databases etc.

Thanks in advance.

My budget - Trying for $1000. Since I am a newbie I must ask a dumb question - from what I have read on Intel's website the Q6600 is 65NM & the E8400 is 45nm. Does this matter since the Gigabyte P35 is 45NM?

thanks in advance for your patience and advise

Q6600= 2.4Ghz 65nm 8MB L2 cache Quad Core. E8400= 3.0Ghz 45nm 6MB L2 cache Core2Duo. Each will run on this board with the proper bios.

P35 is NOT 45nm which has no effect on the die size of the processor. Also E8400 is not a quad core.

Anyway I suggest...
X3350 $350
Mushkin Memory $120 AMIR

I noticed my video card - SFS PVT88PYDF4 Geforece 8800GT 512 mb 256-bit GDDR# PCI Express 2.0x16 uses ddr3 memory. Is this compatible with my board which uses DDR2 memory?

thanks

The RAM Quiksilver linked is much more power and more expensive than you need if you are not overclocking. Any old DDR2-800 will do for your needs. I think Corsair and Crucial are today's popular brands with good prices.
